Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange information between a hosting server and a client. As the information exchanged by the two sides is protected, a 3rd party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of handling a web hosting account. The commands that could be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared server, for example, the possibilities are limited because you won't have root access to the server, so you could only create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so forth. They're all actions that are executed within the shared hosting account and do not require a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you will have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the server or only a particular service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you don't employ a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a lot of apps for other OSs, you can use to connect to the remote server as well.

SSH access is featured with all shared packages we offer. With some of them, it is included by default, while with others it's an additional upgrade which you can add with several mouse clicks in your website hosting Control Panel. You can get SSH access from the section related to it where you will also find the info that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You may choose the password which you'll use and, if necessary, you will be able to change it with a few clicks from the same place. If the SSH access feature is enabled for your account, you will also be able to upload files using your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.
SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, you shall be able to obtain SSH access to it with simply a click from the corresponding section of the Hepsia hosting Control Panel, supplied with all accounts. If your plan does not support this feature by default, you will be able to include it with ease via the Upgrades menu. Once you go to the SSH section, you shall find the info that you need to connect to the server through a command line or a desktop app - the server/host, the port number, the username and the password. The latter can be updated anytime, if required. These login credentials are also required if you'd like to upload files via a secure connection and you would like to use SFTP, which is also part of the SSH access service which we provide you with. A thorough list of the commands you can carry out will give you a better idea of what tasks you may perform in your account and each is accompanied by several instances of the syntax.

You'll be able to use SSH to handle your content regardless of which Linux VPS packages you select when you sign up, because all our packages offer this function by default.
